This resulted in a CD recording of the concert by ‘Academia’ in the concert hall of the Nieuwe Veste in Breda.Since then, together with his friend and colleague Ad Vergouwen, Paul van Gulick has travelled many times to Krasnoyarsk and now both of them have made good friends there.
In February 2004 Paul van Gulick conducted ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’ in the Krasnoyarsk Opera Theatre as a guest conductor. In May 2004 he performed ‘L’Enfance Du Christ’ by Berlioz in the concert hall. In October 2004 he performed works by Brahms, Bernstein and Ravel, as well as some of his own works. The young pianist Laura Sandee accompanied him in a performance of Ravel’s ‘Pianoconcerto en Sol Majeur’.
Nederland-Krasnoyarsk Foundation
In 2003, the Mark&Aa Rotary (of which Paul van Gulick is a member) set up on his initiative the Foundation Netherlands-Krasnoyarsk. The ultimate goal of this foundation is to support street children in Krasnoyarsk and seriously ill children at Villa Pardoes in The Netherlands. Thus, the Foundation invited the Krasnoyarsk Academic Symphony Orchestra, as well as the soloists Vera Baranova, Svetlana Voitkevitch and Andrei Isakov to come and perform in The Netherlands. In collaboration with 3 large participating choirs, all of them conducted by Paul van Gulick, a series of very successful fundraising concerts was given in The Hague, Den Bosch and Breda. A total of nearly 100.000 euro was raised, which has already reached its destination.
